Hora: Des de 12:00h a 13:00h

Lloc: ICFO Auditorium

COLLOQUIUM SERIES: PDE - Mathematical equations for physical models

XAVIER ROS
ICREA Professor at Universitat de Barcelona (UB) and leader of Partial Differential Equations research group

BIO

Xavier Ros Oton is ICREA Professor at the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) where he heads the Research Group on Partial Differential Equations. He is the principal researcher of an ERC Starting Grant (2019-2024) and will soon begin an ERC Consolidator Grant (2024-2029). Formerly he was a lecturer at the University of Zurich (Switzerland) and an R. H. Bing instructor at the University of Texas at Austin (United States). His work focuses on the study of elliptic partial differential equations and variational theory. He has received several awards for young mathematicians in Spain including the National Research Prize for young researchers in Mathematics and Computer Science in 2023, as well as the Scientific Research Award from the Fundación Princesa de Girona in 2019 and the Stampacchia Gold Medal in 2021, an international prize awarded every three years in recognition of outstanding contributions to the Calculus of Variations. In 2022, he was elected as an 'Académico Correspondiente' of the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences.

ABSTRACT

Partial Differential Equations (PDE) have become a universal language to describe natural phenomena from a mathematical and physical standpoint. However, from the mathematical point of view, many basic questions remain unsolved. In this talk we will give an introduction to PDE and their interactions with other sciences.

Host: ICREA Prof. at ICFO Antonio Acín
