From Trustful Bell Violations with Finite Statistics to the Self-Testing of a Quantum Network Link

The assumption of identical and independent distribution (IID) is a useful tool to understand finite datasets from the properties of a simple, single system. However, this assumption is at odd with the device-independent principle. Tools have been proposed to analyze Bell experiments without relying on this assumption, but their figure of merit does not always have the desired physical meaning, and their bounds are not always good enough for small datasets. Here, we present a way of analyzing Bell violations that has a natural physical interpretation and can be bounded tightly. We demonstrate the applicability of this method by using it to self-test an elementary quantum network link.
