Strong-Field Spectroscopy of Phase Transitions in Solids

This seminar will look at using strong laser fields as a tool to both induce and follow phase transitions in solids. Extending the concepts described in my lecture to solids allows one to reach new metastable phases in strongly correlated materials. Looking at the highly nonlinear optical response -- high harmonic generation -- allows one to follow a Mott insulator to metal phase transition in strongly correlated solids and a topological phase transition in 2D materials.
