A Knack for Light: From Light-Years to Nano-Light
July 16th, 2019 NIEK van HULST Molecular Nanophotonics
ICFO-The Institute of Photonic Sciences

As summer student at ICFO you will be enticed by light research. Myself, I entered by astronomy, captivated by telescopes, imaging and space exploration. From telescopes and interstellar clouds, I moved to molecular beams, laser spectroscopy, scanning probes, nanotechnology and single molecules, to what we now call “nanophotonics”: the control of light and its interaction with molecules and materials on the nanometer scale. In this lecture, I will give some examples of our ICFO Nano-Light research. Also, I will display the various turns science can take you, hoping to stimulate in planning your own scientific future.
