Magnetic Solitons in Two-Component Superfluid Mixtures

I will present recent experimental results on the production of long-living solitary waves in a miscible mixture of ultracold sodium atoms. We study the dynamics in a harmonic trap and how magnetic solitons evolve during their motion. The large spin healing length compared to the density healing length makes them much more stable in elongated traps than solitary waves in the density channel. The density profiles of the two components and their relative phase are measured to extract a global picture of the two-component system.
