DISCUSSION SESSION | Navigating the Future of Scientific Publishing: Insights, Challenges, and New Models
We are pleased to invite you to a two-hour discussion session dedicated to exploring the evolving landscape of scientific publishing:
The session will present three perspectives on the publication process.
We will begin with "The Publication Process in Economic Perspective" presented by Ferran Camps, ICFO Documentalist, who will examine the financial dynamics shaping modern publishing, from open access models to traditional journal structures.
Next, "A Journal Editor's Advice for Navigating Modern Scientific Publishing" will offer practical insights from Dr. Felix Campelo, Research Fellow – Single Molecule Biophotonics group.
Drawing on his editorial experience, Dr. Campelo will reflect on the submission process, methods for determining the quality of a paper, and both standard and alternative publication models.
Finally, "The Evolution of Publishing" by Dr. Alessio Bolognesi, Head of Publishing Development at eLife, will outline the publishing model launched by eLife in January 2023 and describe how it addresses some of the current drawbacks of scientific publishing.
The sessions are intended to be interactive and provide space for open discussion among participants and will be followed by a light lunch with pizza, offering an opportunity to continue the conversation in a more informal setting.
