WORKSHOP: Effective Oral Presentations
Strong presentation skills are a key to success for researchers, yet many speakers are at a loss to tackle the task. Systematic as they usually are in their work, they go at it intuitively or haphazardly, with much good will but seldom with an effective outcome. This workshop proposes a systematic way to prepare and deliver an oral presentation: it covers structure, slides, and delivery, as well as stage fright.
The training session is underpinned by Jean-luc's book Trees, maps, and theorems, on “effective communication for rational minds” (2009).
MAY 9th: from 09:30 – 18:00
MAY 30th: (slot 1 and 2) OR JUNE 2nd (slot 3 and 4), from 9:30 – 18:00 – practice
Each participant will take part in a 4-hour practical session in one of the available time slots.
Target Group: PhD Students and Post-doctoral researchers, with priority given to 2nd and 3rd years PhD students
Available places: 25

Dr. Denitza Denkova (practical session)
Denitza Denkova is a senior postdoc at ICFO, with international experience leading cross-disciplinary teams and projects in scientific and industrial contexts. Her passion for effective and authentic communication was sparked during her PhD at KU Leuven (Belgium) by Jean-luc Doumont, who trained her to coach practical sessions on oral presentations. Since then, she has coached presentation skills at her institutions and cultivated complementary interests in non-violent communication, meaningful interpersonal relationships, inspiring mentorship and leadership.
