"Hands-on Introduction to Quantum Computing with Qiskit"
Abstract:
This hands-on session provides a comprehensive introduction to quantum computing using IBM's Qiskit framework. Participants will explore quantum circuits and gates through practical exercises, along with real-world applications across chemistry, machine learning, and optimization domains. The session aims to equip learners with practical quantum programming skills using Qiskit, and alert them to IBM Quantum's educational ecosystem for their continued growth in this emerging field.
PROGRAM:
- Why Quantum Computing (10 min)
- Quantum Computing at IBM (20 min)
- Hands-on with Quantum Gates (20 min, including a 5 min break for people who haven’t done installation)
- Hello World tutorial (30 min)
- Quantum use cases: Machine Learning (60 min)
- Coffee break (30 min)
- Quantum use cases: Optimization (45 min)
- Quantum use cases: Chemistry (Quick overview) (10 min)
- Learning resources by IBM Quantum (15 min)

Radha Pyari Sandhir
EMEA Workforce & Education Advocate, Assistant Program Manager, QAP, IBM Quantum
Dr. Radha Pyari Sandhir is an EMEA Workforce & Education Advocate and the Assistant Program Manager of the Qiskit Advocate Program at IBM Quantum. She champions inclusive educational approaches and is dedicated to building a diverse future quantum workforce. Her expertise stems from previous roles within IBM Quantum as a Learning Experience Designer and the India Community Lead. Radha has pioneered innovative approaches to quantum education, notably designing and leading the world's first global game-based quantum computing educational program. Her interest lies in making quantum computing accessible and engaging for diverse learners worldwide, and in this regard has created educational quantum games and a book called Quantum Kittens that teaches quantum computing concepts to non-technical audiences through stories about cats.
Junye Huang
EMEA Workforce & Education Advocate | Global Lead for Coding Challenges, IBM Quantum
Junye Huang is an EMEA Workforce & Education Advocate and Global Lead for Coding Challenges at IBM Quantum. As an Education Advocate, he leads the development and implementation of quantum education programs across the EMEA region. As Global Lead for Coding Challenges, Junye orchestrates the strategic planning and execution of flagship initiatives, including the IBM Quantum Challenge, Qiskit Global Summer School, and IBM Quantum Developer Conference challenges. Passionate about quantum education and video games, Junye created quantum computer games like QPong to teach quantum computing concepts. QPong was featured in the popular Coding with Qiskit YouTube series, garnering over 100k views, and its quantum arcade machine toured exhibitions under the EU Quantum Flagship program.
