Cavity enhanced quantum light source

Quantum Light Sources Compatible with Solid State Quantum Memories

Description of Activities:

Advanced quantum experiments involving entanglement between remote material systems require the storage of non classical light in quantum memories, in particular photons part of an entangled state. The creation of quantum light compatible with quantum memories is a challenging task because the created photons must have a strong interaction with the atomic system used as quantum memory. In order to maximize the interaction, the photons must thus have a very precise frequency corresponding to the optical transition of the atoms used and also that they must have a spectral bandwidth smaller than the bandwidth of the quantum memory. In this project, we investigate ways to implement quantum light sources compatible with solid state quantum memories, e.g. based on cavity enhanced spontaneous down-conversion.
