Description of Activities:

Our optical sensing activities aspire to lead to the next generation of photodetectors, thermal sensors and image sensors operating in the MWIR/LWIR at an affordable cost enabling applications in safety and security, environmental monitoring, and food/process quality inspection at a consumer level. To expand the wavelength range of colloidal quantum dot photodetectors we leverage intersubband transitions that we can access by having developed robust heavily doped CQD thin films. We then further engineer the CQDs at a single nanocrystalline level as well as the suprananocrystalline level to enable efficient harnessing of intraband-excited carriers for high performance photodetectors.
