ICFOnian to lead the Harish-Chandra Research Institute

ICFO celebrates that one of its pioneers, Prof. Ujjwal Sen, who conducted research at our institute as a Ramon-y-Cajal postdoctoral researcher from 2005 to 2008, has recently been named director of the Harish-Chandra Research Institute in Prayagraj, Allahabad, where he started as a Reader in 2009, steadily solidifying his distinguished career.

Prof. Sen did his PhD with Prof. Ryszard Horodecki in Gdansk, Poland after which he joined the group led by Prof. Maciej Lewenstein at Leibniz-University in Hannover, Germany as a Humboldt postdoctoral researcher. When Lewenstein brought the Quantum Optics research group to ICFO in 2005, Sen became one of the original members of the group, contributing enormously to ICFO’s initial exploding growth.

“I hope to help the researchers of my institute in their efforts to learn and excel in their pursuits” commented Prof. Sen when contacted by ICFO’s Alumni Network about his new role. “I literally grew up at ICFO with titans around me,” he continued, “and while I fully realize that I am a small person, I would still try to imbibe some of their values in my work in the new position.”
