Salvà i Campillo Award

Lluis Torner honored by Catalan Association of Engineers and COEINF for leadership of ICFO.

Thursday, 23 February, the 22nd Night of Telecommunications and IT Engineers (22ª Nit de les Telecomunicacions i la Informàtica) was the setting for the prize ceremony of the Salvà i Campillo, Alan Turing and the La Nit Premi d’Honor awards, given jointly by the Catalan Association of Telecommunication Engineers (Telecos.cat) and the Official College of Telecommunications and IT Engineers of Catalonia (COEINF). The President of the Government of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, and the President of the Catalan Parliament, Carme Forcadell, were both present at the ceremony as guests of honor.

The Salvà i Campillo Outstanding Individual award (Premi Salvà i Campillo a la Personalitat Destacada), which honors the person or entity that has made a significant contribution to the promotion or dissemination of electronics, TICs or audiovisuals, was awarded to ICFO’s director, Lluís Torner. The jury cited Torner’s role in leading ICFO to become an internationally recognized leader in its field.

The Salvà i Campillo award for Entrepreneurship was given to Ramón Alós, founder and president of Optral, and to Jose M. Caballero, founder and Director of Albedo Telecom. The Alan Turing award for Social Responsibility was given to Jordi Ros, creator of the social network Labdoo. The Alan Turing award for CIO of the year went to Francesc Muñoz, CIO of the law firm Cuatrecasas. The evening’s highest award, the La Nit Premi d’Honor, was given to The Faculty of Information Technology of the Universitat de Barcelona.

La Nit de les Telecomunicacions i la Informàtica, now in its 22nd year, is the flagship event for the Telecommunications and IT sector in Catalonia. The event marks the yearly launch of the sector’s activities in Barcelona and serves as the first networking encounter of the year for professionals, companies, public administration officials, associations and institutions in the ITC sector.
