22 December 2010 ICFO in This Week in Physics

Research on the generation of light bullets contributed by ICFOnians highlighted in APS Physics. APS Physics highlights this week a paper on the generation of light bullets published in Physical Review Letters by an international team led by Dr. Stefano Minardi, from the Institute of Applied Physics, Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena (Germany). The result reported in the paper constitutes a landmark advance, pursued for more than two decades by many institutions. Achieving it has required an extended, multi-institutional effort.

Dr. Minardi is a former ICFOnian from the group led by Prof. Juan Perez Torres. The team is completed by PhD student Falk Eilenberger, Prof. Stefan Nolte, Prof. Andreas Tünnermann and Prof.Thomas Pertsch, Institute of Applied Physics, Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena; Dr. Alezander Szameit, Technion, Israel; Dr. Ulrich Röpke, Dr. Jens Kobelke, Dr. Kay Schuster, and Prof. Hartmut Bartelt, Institute of Photonic Technology, Jena, Germany; Prof. Falk Lederer, Institute of Condensed Matter Theory and Solid State Optics, Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena; and Dr. Yaroslav Kartashov, and Prof. Lluis Torner from ICFO.
