Dr. Jon Donner

Dr Jon Donner recognized for the commercial viability of the results of his PhD thesis. The umbrella organization Institució CERCA has recently introduced the PIONEER Awards, with the objective of recognizing PhD students working in one of the CERCA institutes who, during the course of the past 12 months, have presented a doctoral thesis through which they are proposing to initiate or strengthen a technology or product that may have an industrial or commercial application or make a significant specific contribution to the development of public policy.

I.CERCA is the Government of Catalonia’s technical service and its means for supervising, supporting and facilitating the activities of the research centres in the CERCA system. By recognizing commercially viable PhD Thesis, I.CERCA aims to stress to future generations the importance of considering the value of the results of their research, not only in the scientific arena, but also with a view to commercial or industrial application.

ICFO congratulates Jon, who did his PhD Thesis at ICFO entitled ‘Thermo-Plasmonics: Controlling and Probing Temperature on the Nanometer Scale’ in the Plasmon NanoOptics Group under the supervision of Professor Romain Quidant. This is the first edition of the Pioneer Awards, and Jon is one of three first recipients of the award.
