Prof. Niek van Hulst

Prof. Niek van Hulst honored for the 2nd time with this prestigious ERC Grant for senior research leaders The European Research Council (ERC) made public today the list of recipients of its prestigious Advanced Investigator Grants , including ICREA Professor at ICFO, Niek van Hulst who has been granted his second Advanced grant to pursue his project LightNet (”Tracking the Coherent Light Path in Photosynthetic Networks”). In 2009, Prof.van Hulst was awarded his first ERC Advanced Grant, which made possible the “Nano-Optical Antennas for Tunable Single Photon Super-Emitters” project.

Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, said: “Scientists benefitting from these ERC Advanced Grants work at the frontiers of human knowledge. They have ground- breaking ideas that may be risky to pursue, but that also reap exceptional gains. They also often spark new discoveries and tackle the biggest challenges for society. Thanks to funding for excellent science from Horizon 2020, the EU\'s research and innovation programme, they will be able to continue exploring these ideas.”

In this first Advanced Grant competition under the ‘excellent science’ pillar of Horizon 2020, 190 grants were awarded to senior research leaders from 2287 applications received. The grantees were selected through peer review evaluation by 25 panels composed of renowned scientists from around the world. The funding, worth in total €445 million, will enable them and their teams to pursue ground-breaking ideas.

Congratulations Niek on this great achievement!
