10 February 2016 Faculty of 1000

An ICFO PNAS Plus paper has been highlighted by the Faculty of 1000. The recent study published in PNAS Plus researchers of the Single Molecule Biophotonics research group Dr. Juan Torreño, Dr. Carlo Manzo, Dr. Anna Oddone, led by ICREA Professor at ICFO Maria Garcia-Parajo, in collaboration with Dr. Melike Lakadamyali, has been recommended by The Faculty of 1000 as being of special significance in its field.

F1000Prime is a revolutionary post-publication peer review service that comprehensively and systematically highlights and recommends the most interesting articles published in the biomedical sciences, based on the recommendations of a faculty of more than 5,000 of the world\'s leading scientists and clinical researchers, called \"Faculty Members\", assisted by their designated associates, known as \"Associate Faculty Members\".

The Faculty recommends the most important articles, rating them and providing short explanations for their selections. Dr. Weiming Yuan, Professor of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Southern California, and F1000 Faculty member has reviewed and recommend the ICFO study as highly significant in its field, stating that by “Using fluorescence-labeled T cell receptors (TCRs) and latest total internal reflection fluorescence microscope (TIRFM) techniques, the authors were able to show at nanoscale the regulation of human CD1d protein movement by the actin cytoskeleton in antigen-presenting cells. Furthermore, the authors demonstrated how inflammatory signals can regulate this process and lead to downstream natural killer T (NKT) cell activation”.
