Research by Prof. Ebrahim-Zadeh’s group on extended tunability of solid-state blue laser reported as a Newsbreak. The August issue of Laser Focus World reports the results of the latest research done by Majid Ebrahim-Zadeh’s group as a Newsbreak titled \"Solid-state blue laser offers extended tenability.\"

Although continuous-wave blue diode lasers are available, output power, beam quality, and tunability are limited. And although frequency doubling of Ti:sapphire laser output can provide tuning in the 400 to 500 nm range, both the cost and complexity of this option are high. The news reports that researchers at The Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) and the Institució Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avançats (ICREA) have developed a blue, compact solid-state laser that offers practical output power, single-mode operation and a wide tuning range, using an alternative method based on second-harmonic generation in the cavity of a green-laser-pumped optical parametric oscillator (OPO).
