22 July 2009 P4L Review Meeting

A moment of the meeting

ICFO gathered European BioPhotonics researchers for the PHOTONICS4LIFE Review Meeting on July 16th, 2009. ICFO hosted the Review Meeting of the European Network of Excellence PHOTONICS4LIFE (P4L) held on July 16th. The meeting, hosted by ICFO group leader, Prof. Niek van Hulst, included an overview of the first year of the project by Coordinator, Prof. Jürgen Popp, Director of the Institute of Photonic Technology (Friedrich Schiller University Jena) and several workpackage leaders.

PHOTONICS4LIFE aims to provide a coherent framework for research in the field of BioPhotonics in Europe. One of the challenging tasks of PHOTONICS4LIFE is to overview the research and rapid technological developments across these various sub-disciplines. PHOTONICS4LIFE endeavors to bridge the gaps between the different research communities, ranging from Physics and Engineering via Chemistry and Physical Chemistry to Biology and Medicine. In its second year, PHOTONICS4LIFE seeks to extend its reach by including associated and industrial partners.

Besides ICFO, other partners include the Institute of Photonic Technology (IPhT) in Jena (Germany), University of St. Andrews (Scotland), Imperial College London (England), Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT), Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe (FZK, Germany), Lund University (Sweden), Saratov State University (Russia), University of Muenster (Germany), MESA+ at University of Twente (the Netherlands), Istituto di Fisica Applicata \"Nello Carrara\" (CNR IFAC, Italy), CNRS - Institut d\'Optique Graduate School (France) and Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium).

ICFO will once again be the site of choice for the 3rd P4L Scientific Meeting to be held November 16-18, 2009.
