Young Academy of Europe
ICFO Prof. Nicoletta Liguori joins the YAE Board
The Young Academy of Europe (YAE), a pan-European initiative of young scientists for networking, scientific exchange and science policy, is a bottom-up initiative of a dynamic and innovative group of recognised European young scholars with outspoken views about science and science policy. They became a registered charity organisation in 2019.
ICFO Prof. Nicoletta Liguori, leader of the Photon Harvesting in Plants and Biomolecules research group, became a YAE Fellow in February 2024. Requirements for membership include outstanding researcher with recognised national/international excellence, demonstrated leadership abilities, and obtention of a PhD ≤12 years ago. All fellows are motivated to:
- Provide advice and feedback on science policy across Europe, from a “younger” perspective
- Involve top young scientists in the future European research strategy, such as Long Range Plans and ESF Roadmaps
- Promote evidence-based policy across all European countries
- Support other young scientists in Europe in their further development and in thinking strategically about the future of their own discipline
- Create and foster a network of top young researchers across the disciplines in Europe
The YAE is administered by a Board made up of members who are experts and leaders in their respective fields, as recognised by their peers. The board's main function is to support YAE activities by guiding and coordinating the ideas and activities of its members. It serves as the first point of contact for external parties and for the Academai Europaea (AE). At the Annual General Meeting held in August 2024, Prof. Liguori was elected to join the new 12 person board and has taken the role of Selection Committee Vice-chair.
Congratulations Niki.
